The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has produced an amazing yarnbomb in Hertford, bringing joy to local residents this Christmas!
We staged the woolly version of the much loved pantomime, Cinderella, as a nod to our new theatre’s production this Christmas! The Society is delighted to have collaborated with Hertford Town Council to decorate Hertford’s town centre Christmas Tree. The tree was decorated on 13th November 2024. The complete castle was installed on 20th November 2024. The final launch complete with lights was at 6pm on 22nd November at the Hertford Christmas Gala!
The imagination of our members knows no bounds...
To decorate the tree we knitted, crocheted, sewed & upcycled pumpkins, mice, glass slippers, clocks, cloches, and invitations to the ball addressed to well known children’s characters. But we didn’t stop there! We also made Prince Charming’s whole castle complete with moat, drawbridge, towers, a kitchen, a DJ, a bar, dancers in flowing gowns and ties and tails! The story wouldn’t be complete without the cruel sisters, some scoundrels trying to sneak in without tickets (called Noel & Liam), soldiers for security, a fairy Godmother and of course Prince Charming and Cinderella!
Recycling was a fundamental feature of our Christmas yarnbomb. Our aim was to recycle and reuse as much as possible. We used milk bottle tops, pieces of past installations, plastic bottles, sweet wrappers, plastic bags for underskirts, off cuts from sheds, old costume jewelry, yoghurt pots, old clothes, estate agent boards and even a lamp shade!
Some specific ballroom scenes show:
-
A couple celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary
-
Two break dancers and a DJ
-
A couple performing a daring lift
-
Cruel sisters slathering on fake tan
-
Bar with French bar maid
-
A Victorian kitchen
-
Two scoundrels trying to get into the ball without tickets!
-
A pair of dancers mid-dip
-
A marriage proposal!
-
A Fairy Godmother
-
Prince Charming & Cinderella!
We have devised a quiz which engages and encourages children to experience being at the ball themselves!
A printed copy of the quiz may be collected from the Yarnbombers’ stall in Salisbury Square, Hertford and completed quizzes may be returned here too.
