SSOHC celebrated The Yarnlympics!
The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters produced an amazing yarnbomb in Hertford and Ware, bringing joy to local residents over the summer by hosting the YARNLYMPICS!
The Society bought 37 Yarnlympic-themed Postbox toppers to Hertford and Ware with 26 toppers in Hertford and 11 in Ware. We had 4 key themes: Sports, Para-athletes, History and Paris.
The imagination of our members knews no bounds...
We had knitted and crocheted golf, wheelchair basketball, triathletes, gymnastics, hockey, skateboarding, canoeing, cycling, swimming, para-athlete runners, heptathlon, rowing, dressage, hurdles, tennis, relay, ladies’ archery, sailing and pommel horse gymnasts – amongst others.
We had nodded to a very popular international sporting event happening over the summer by crafting well-known Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
To acknowledge the history of this sporting event, there was a chariot racer and a scene at the Acropolis. The Yarnlympics wouldn’t have been complete without a flaming cauldron, medals and a winners’ podium, so we made them too!
This year, we are supporting the Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal. If you would like to donate, please scan the QR code or click here.
